Crane Plastics Manufacturing Ltd., USA has purchased 60 per cent of Profile Solutions Inc., USA and changed its name to Profile Solutions Industries. The current management, still holding the remaining 40 per cent will continue to operate the firm as separate entity.

Wavin : Record profits

The leading european pipe manufacturer Wavin, Netherlands has raised its profits by 90 per cent and turnover by 3 per cent. This extreme profits rise is based on improved sales in France and Northern European countries. In 1999 the turnover of the complete Wavin group was about EURO 776 million with an output of 362.000 tns.

Mobil: Boost of OPP film production

Mobil Plastics Europe will expand its oriented polypropylene (OPP) film
production in Brindisi, Italy. It will install a line with with a
capacity of more than 44 million pounds per year. Operation will start
in 2001 and will reach full capacity in 2002.

Toray : PET-film investment in Malaysia

Toray, Japan will expand its operation in Penang, Malaysia by adding a third line for the production of PET-film. The existing lines have a capacity of 30.000 jato, this means 30 per cent of the world market. The new investment will amount to EURO 90 million.

Battenfeld: 5-layer pipe for England

Leoni : Take over of Lucas Rists Wiring Systems

The german cable manufacturer Leoni AG, Germany takes over the british Lucas Rists Wiring Systems. Lucas Rists employs approxm. 4.000 people in the UK, Romania, Tschech Republik and Egypt with a turnover of Euro 150 million. With this deal Leoni has reached almost the Euro 1 billion turnover. Leoni is one of the mayor supplier of cable for the automotive industry.

Albis: New Copolyester for profile extrusion

Albis is the distributor of Eastman Chemical Company and offers a wide range of compounds for the profile extrusion. The new developed Copolyester “Provista” should be a real alternative to PMMA, PVC and PC in the field of extrusion. “Provista” will be introduced on the KMO fair in Bad Salzuflen,Germany.

DOW : New PE-film for medical applications

“Covelle” is the PE-film for medical applications of Dow. One of the main characteristics is the good sealability of the film. This PE film can be sealed with existing High-Frequency sealing units which are commonly used for PVCand EVA film. Therefore Covelle is a real alternative for medical applications where PVC is more and more banned.

Silvergate: New compounding extruders

Silvergate Plastics, UK has ordered two twin screw compounding extruders from Leistritz for masterbatch production. The order represents a change in direction for Silvergate. The company is specialised in small lots with quick colour matching.and has worked on single screw extruders and small scale twin screw extruders. Due to increasing demand also for large production runs, the company ordered two 50 mm Leistritz twin screw extruders and attendant line equipment.

Royalite: GBP 1,2 million investment in equipment

Royalite Plastics, UK has invested GBP1,2 million in an extrusion line to make triple layer acrylic-capped ABS sheet. The 2,5 m line from Union in Italy is reckoned to be the widest such line in the UK, and has gone into the company’s Newbridge plant in Scotland alongside five other sheet lines and a calender.
