M.A. Hanna : Sale of foam rubber business

M.A. Hanna, USA has sold its Diversified Polymer Products (DPP) business to an investment group that includes members of the DPP management team. The new owner will maintain the DPP business in Dyersburg , USA and operate it under the name Colonial Diversified Polymer Products. DPP manufactures cellular rubber for products such as automotive seals.

BF Goodrich: Sale of Performance Materials

The rubber and PVC pioneer BF Goodrich, USA intends to sell its so called -Performance Materials- division, including Estane-TPU, TempRite-PVC-C and Telene-DCPD. The turnover of US$ 1,2 billion also includes a wide range of additives and coatings based on different thermoplastic polymers. BF Goodrich will focus exclusively on its Aerospace and Engineered Industrial Products divisions.

Certainteed : Takeover plans

Certainteed Corp.,USA is trying to take over fiberglass processor Brunswick Technologies, USA. Certainteed intends to offer US$ 8 million for each of Brunswick´s 5,2 million outstanding shares. The takeover deal could also affect Certainteed´s vinyl building products business. BTI said it has implemented a plan to prevent a takeover.

Maguire Products: New dryer line

Maguire Products, USA intends to enter a new market with a new plastic dryer which will be launched at the NPE in Chicago in June. The Maguire Low Pressure Dryer (LPD) is said to use a different principle of moisture evacuation and promises much simpler and more efficient operation.

Makroform: Green light for joint-venture

The European Commission has approved the joint venture between Bayer and Roehm. The joint venture company Makroform is one of the worldwide leaders in the field of PC sheets and boards.

Geon : Closing of engineered PVC films

Geon Co., USA will close its engineered PVC film plant in Newton Upper Falls by mid-2001. The closing was announced less than a year after acquiring the plant from O´Sullivan Corp. The production will shift to other Geon film plants. 80 employees are affected by the closing.

Bayer : Polymer service-center in China

Bayer AG; Germany will set up a technical service center for the field of polymers. The center located in Shanghai costs approx. Euro 10 million and shall support the growing number of chinese customers. It is also considered as central office for the companies chinese activities. Bayer also plans PC and PU production plants in China. China is already Bayers second largest market with a turnover of Euro 500 million.

Montell: Joint-Venture with Daelim

PP-producer Montell, subsidiary of Shell Chemicals, has signed a joint-venture deal with the korean Daelim. The name of the new company is PolyMirae which will have a capacity of more than 1,2 million tons PP for the asian region, especially for the korean and chinese market.

Creative Forming : Investment in sheet line

Creative Forming, USA will add another Davis-Standard sheet line. The US$ 5,5 million expansion project at its Alphatec Extrusion division in Ripon will increase the companies capacity to meet the growing demand especially in North America.
